What Matters this Week at Purpose Africa?

  • Summary: This second issue of Purpose Africa Matters continues the success of the inaugural issue. It serves as a communication tool for the Governing Board and staff and as a template for customized formats for various stakeholders. Bi-weekly updates will follow.

New Documents:

  1. Updated IC Guidelines:

    • These guidelines are continuously improved based on feedback from countries to enhance clarity and usefulness as a support tool.
  2. Online (Internal) Excel Tool:

    • This tool estimates the number of research centers, trials, total costs, jobs, revenue, and profit for each year of engagement, aiding countries in developing and costing their Investment Cases.

Partnership Matters – Foundations:

  • Ongoing and strengthening country-level engagements between governments and foundation representatives mentioned in the previous issue.

New Staff Member:

Christine NiyizamwiyitiraChristine Niyizamwiyitira: Appointed as the Focal Point for Rwanda, coordinating Purpose Africa support to ACTIVATE Africa’s country-led implementation. Christine has a background in teaching and research at Carnegie Mellon University Africa.

 

Partnership Matters – Industry:

  1. MedShr

    • Productive discussions to provide certified courses for clinical trials and data science.
  2. Cerba Healthcare

    • Discussions regarding a potential partnership are in follow-up stages.

Programming:

  • Continuous expansion and follow-up with industry connections to support linking research centers to opportunities.

Country Updates:

Ethiopia:

  • First draft of the Investment Case finalized. Working with the country to incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
  • Consultant hired and started a desk review; assessments will begin shortly on 16 research centers.

Rwanda:

  • Christine Niyizamwiyitira hired as the Focal Point.
  • Awaiting feedback next Friday to move to the next steps.

Nigeria:

  • Updates on ongoing initiatives and strategic directions being implemented and established.
