Our Approach

We leverage our expertise in three critical areas
of biotechnology to influence a global agenda
on quality, access & equity, and sustainability.

Human Resources
for Health

Data
Science

Public Health and
Clinical Research

Human Resources for Health

Objective

We aim to increase the number, quality and professional mix of resources through a hands-on approach to training and continuous technical assistance of personnel that are better equipped to deliver data science and clinical research results.

Approach

Building capacity among human resources and infrastructure to enhance data science and public health & clinical research affects three key metrics of overall health system performance.

Access

Quality

Sustainability

We focus on these key metrics in our approach to designing, delivering, and
monitoring the impact of our programming in Human Resources for Health.

Description of Programming

Our programs and services in this area put African human resources at the centre of our entire approach to our mission and build upon decades of important work identifying best practices in building Human Resources for Health capacity in Africa.

Data Science

Objective

We aim to improve the availability and usability of quality health data in Africa as it relates to People, Platforms, and Processes, for more informative health decision-making and for commercial purposes that result in local revenue generation.

Approach

Our approach to building capacity for data science uses the 3Ps framework in guiding our gap assessments and the design, delivery, and evaluation of ourprograms and services.

Description of Programming

Our programs and services in this area support local partners build capacity for data, it supports national-level partners make better use of health data to inform policy, and it supports industry partners in planning their product development pathways for market commercialization.

Public Health & Clinical Research

Objective

We aim to grow and optimize the clinical trials ecosystem by increasing the supply of fully capacitated clinical sites through regional standards of practice and quality site management, while increasing the demand for sites through awareness and engagement with industry partners.

Approach

With global industry priorities favouring patient diversity and inclusion, there is an important role for the growth of clinical research in Africa. The timing is right for Africa to take ownership of enhancing capacity using health system performance metrics important to Africa.

Our approach to building capacity for clinical research starts at the site or centre level, but we engage all stakeholders in our methods aiming to harmonize processes whenever possible.

Description of Programming

Our programs and services in this area support our regional partners by coordinating our growing our network of clinical sites/centres to mobilize resources, they build capacity for research starting at the site-level, and they connect industry partners to quality sites and site management services.
